Lagavulin 16-Year-Old
I thought I better include the Lagavulin next in my list
of single malts. This is one of Paul (my
husband’s) favourites. I like it but it
is an end of an evening drink for me, not an anytime whisky. It is also more expensive than any of the other
whiskies I have mentioned so far being around 57 GBP a bottle.
It smells smoky, it tastes peaty and the after taste
is peaty. If you want that big hit Islay
taste, then this is the one.
Masters of Malt have this to say …
Nose: More
like Lapsang Souchong tea than Lapsang Souchong! One of the smokiest noses from
Islay. It's big, very, very concentrated, and redolent of iodine, sweet spices,
good, mature Sherry and creamy vanilla. Stunning.
Palate: Very thick and rich. A massive mouthful of malt and Sherry
with good fruity sweetness, but also a wonderful sweetness. Big, powerful peat
and oak.
Finish: Long, spicy finish, figs, dates, peat smoke, vanilla.
