Laphroaig Select
Single Malt
This is bound to be in most people’s cupboards if they
drink single malt, it is quite common and often on special offer at Tesco. It is an all-round, good Islay whisky, full
bodied with a balance of peat, smoke, and sweetness.
It is a good dram to have on a cold evening in front of
a nice real fire, costing around 32GBP, down to about 25GBP when it is on
offer.
Here is what Master’s of Malt have to say about it
Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt
Nose: Classic, medicinal peat notes up front,
supported by citrus-y, chocolate-y sweet notes and soft barley.
Palate: The peat is there, but it's taking it easy and
letting the bright notes of lemon, green apples and mint stand out. Darker
baking spice notes develop further on.
Finish: Medium length, peat remaining in sight until
it's over.
Overall: It doesn't pack a huge punch of peat, which
might be just the ticket for introducing someone to the wonders of Islay's
smoky expressions.
